Kenya 13 days, 12 nights

Arrive in Nairobi, clear customs and meet your waiting tour manager.   Transfer to your hotel, settle in and enjoy dinner before turning in for the night.  (activities included based on flight arrival time – most flights will land in the evening)

Itinerary – Start your day with a visit to the Nairobi National Museum, spend time in the galleries learning about the rich history and culture of the country, from the Stone Age to the modern day.   Visit the adjoining Snake Park to learn about indigenous reptiles and snakes.  See crocodiles, snakes of all species, tortoises, lizards and more.  Have your picture made holding a Python, if you dare!   The day continues with a guided tour of the historic home of Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa.

This afternoon, visit the Giraffe Center to learn about the country’s wildlife and the importance of environmental conservation.   The center is home to the critically endangered Rothschild Giraffe.  Lengthen your visit with one of the many available programs including conserving native species, biomass fuel production, waste management, or composting.  While here, take some time to feed the Rothschild Giraffes!

We will then visit the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, a treatment and rehabilitation center for a variety of Kenya’s wildlife.  Learn about conservation efforts and watch feeding of many rescued species.

Dinner tonight will be at the famous Carnivore Restaurant, which offers unlimited roasted meats including some exotic offerings.

Itinerary – You will spend today visiting a local primary school in one of the most underprivileged areas of Nairobi.  See first hand the methods used to teach the children and then have an opportunity to lead some activities yourselves as you spend the day volunteering at the school.

Itinerary – After breakfast, check out and depart for Maasai lands.  On the way, stop for some amazing pictures at the Great Rift Valley before continuing your drive.   Have lunch on arrival at the camp.   Enjoy some relaxation time, before your afternoon hike to the summit of Mt. Loita.  At the summit, take some time to enjoy the picturesque landscape unfolding before you.   Make a stop at a local hot spring on your return to camp.  Enjoy dinner at camp and evening storytelling around the campfire.

Overnight:   Maasai Land  (tent camping, all gear-tent, mattress & bedding provided)

Itinerary – Today begins with a visit to a local Masaii village.   The Maasai are a local indigenous community that continue to live in their traditional ways.  Spend time this morning volunteering at a local Maasai school.   You’ll then have an opportunity to visit a local medical clinic.

After lunch, spend the afternoon learning from the Maasai, as they share their traditional ways of caring for their animals – which are central to their way of life.   The day continues with an exploration of Maasai culture and lifeways.   Learn traditional songs and dances, jewelry making, and even learn to throw a spear!

Itinerary – Depart this morning for Masai Mara National Reserve, a vast wildlife conservation area bordering the Serengheti.  Arrive at your lodging in time for lunch.

Enjoy time to relax before departing on an evening game drive.   See first hand the natural diversity of wildlife in this animal paradise.  Keep your camera ready for lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, and more. Enjoy dinner at the hotel at the conclusion of your game drive.

Overnight:  Masai Mara National Reserve

Itinerary – After breakfast, depart on a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch.  Today’s game drive takes you to the Mara River, famed for the Great Migration that occurs each year.  Millions of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and more travel this route each year looking for greener pastures.  (the Great Migration occurs from July to September).  You also may see the border stones that mark the boundary between Kenya and Tanzania.

Return to the hotel for dinner and a relaxing evening by the pool.

Itinerary – Check out this morning and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by grasslands and tremendous diversity in natural formations and wildlife.  Lake Nakuru National Park is best known as a bird lover’s paradise.  The park is home to over 400 species of birds including a large flamboyance of flamingos that call the lake home.   In addition to the numerous bird species, other wildlife abound, including the endangered white and black rhinoceros,  Rothschild giraffes, lions, impalas, and many more.

This afternoon depart for Lake Elementaita and check-in to your lakeside hotel.

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Itinerary – This morning depart for Lake Naivasha, one of Kenya’s youngest national parks.  On arrival, enjoy a boat safari where you can witness wallowing hippopotamuses, a variety of bird species and maybe even a Cape Buffalo.

The safari cruise will dock at Crescent Island, famous for being the set of the film Out of Africa.   Spend some time walking with the animals, don’t worry – there are no predators here!  Cruise back across the lake and check-in to your lake side hotel.

Later this afternoon, we will visit Hell’s Gate National Park, the park that inspired The Lion King.  Enjoy a guided hike to Fischer’s Tower, a 75’ rock formation made from molten lava that was forced up through the earth.

Return to the hotel for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Overnight:   Lake Naivasha

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Itinerary – Depart this morning for Amboseli National Park, home of the African Elephant, and the best opportunity to view large herds of elephants up close in their natural habitat.   If you love elephants, this is the place for you!

Your game drive begins on arrival.  Keep your camera close by as elephants are not the only wildlife here.   See leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, wild dogs, lions, and many more.  Enjoy a picnic lunch while on the game drive.   Don’t forget to snap a picture of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, which towers over the park’s landscape.

This afternoon, if time allows, visit a local Maasai village, before checking into your hotel.

Overnight:  Amboseli National Park

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Itinerary – This morning, depart for Ngutuni, a private nature conservancy that borders Tsavo East National Park.  Arrive at the lodge, check in and enjoy lunch.  All of the rooms at the lodge face a watering hole frequented by elephants, buffalo, giraffes and more.   Enjoy some time this afternoon relaxing by the pool, and watching the animals as they visit the watering hole.

Later today, enjoy a game safari, before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Overnight:  Ngutuni

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Itinerary – Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea before departing on a sunrise game drive, then return to the lodge for a full breakfast.

Check out and depart for Nairobi airport.  Say goodbye to Africa, but leave with your cherished memories of this epic life-changing adventure.
